RAILWAY STATIONS.
WILL HAVE TO BE BUILT OUT OF 34EVENUE. [B2 TEI.EGHAHH-— PfiESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRRyrCHURCH, This Day. Replying to ar deputation at Leeston yesterday, the Hon. J. A. Millar said it was not the intension erf the Railway Department to buiki elaborate railway stations throughout the railway system. What was essential was ample platform and offioe accommodation. There were requests for new stations from all over New Zealand, but the cost must be met out of revenue. Only a certain amount was available unless, a loan was raised, and the money had to be distributed over the whole system. In carrying out works he would not dream af building stations at Lincoln or Doyleston out of one year's revenue. Seeing the number of new stations needed one in a year on that line would be good work. Over the whole of New Zealand only four or five stations would bo replaced during the current year. It would be impossible to do more owing to the restriction of expenditure to moneys from revenue. He corrld easily spend one million this year on the renewal of stations and yards, but the desire was bounded by the funds available.
