CHARGE AGAINST A PUBLICAN. .ALLEGED GAMBLING ON LICENSED PREMISES. [DT TELEGRAPH. PKESS .ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER, This Day. Robert James Howard was charged at the S.M. Court with permitting gambling on licensed premises, by allowing | cards to be played for drinks. The -j Magistrate said the evidence as presented by the police was inconclusuve, and he dad not feel justified in entering a conviction His Worship concluded : — "Cards have been played in this hotel, and played for money, by a boy of 15 years of age. In my opinion this has been established. I can only say that »a licensee who harbours a boy of 15 jears around his hotel is not fit to hold a license. With these remarks I dismiss the information."
