♦ DIRTY WEATHER. The strong south-easterly that lias swept over Cook Stiait to-day made itself felt by vessels arriving in port. The Monowai took eighteen hour* on the run trom Napier this morning. She left for Wellington at 5.30 p.m. y<,*«terday, and all went well till 4 o'clock this morning, when a stiong southeasterly gale sprang up, and from that time till arriving the vessel was in the midst of a heavy sea. Quantities of spray swept her decks, but she rode through safely, and arrived here at 11.30 a.m. onicers of the Kia Ora, which arrived at the same time from Lyttelton, reported that a big south-easterly sea was running south of 1 Cook Strait this morning. The vessel had a head sea to contend with coming up. The Wairau is now due at any time from Nelson and Mojueka. She left the latter port at 12.30 p.m. yesterday, and is probably sheltering somewhere.
