RUINOUS INCREASES.
BUDGET PROPOSALS OBJECTED TO. THE CHANCELLOR HAS AN OPEN MIND. fly Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright LONDON, 7th May. At a meeting in London, of representatives of the licensed trades, including the distilleries, an emphatic protest was made against the ruinous increase in duties and license fees proposed in the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Budget. A deputation informed Mr. LloydGeorge that the increase in the tobacco duties would lead to the discharge of half the cigar-makers now employed. Mr. Lloyd-George intimated that he would hear every deputation on the matter before coming to a final decision concerning the possibility of a modification of the Budget proposals.
