LAWN TENNIS.

m WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association last evening was attended by Messrs. R. Sfc. J. Beere (chairman), J. W. M. Dart, S. A. Lewis, A. Fair, J. F. O'Leary, J. M Hogben, 'C. E. Weir (treasurer), and T. H. Jones (secretary). The Marton Club wrote, asking for the definition of a trophy, as a winner at the club's recent tournament had purchased a pair of boots on his trophyorder. It was decided that the order could not be honoured, as the articles referred to could hardly be termed "a memorial to celebrate a victory" (the dictionary definition of the word "trophy"). Messrs. Fair and O'Leary were appointed delegates lo attend the conference of sports bodies in Batkin's (Armit's) Rooms to-night, with reference to the consolidation of the athletic vote in connection with the coming municipal elections. The balance-sheet of the recent Wei--lington-Canterbury match showed a debit balance. of £12 3s 2d. This brought forth some comment from members, and eventually a subcommittee, consisting of Messrs. Beere, Weir, and Swanston, was set up to deal with the whole question of interprovincial fixtures. In connection with the Wellington provincial championship tournament at Easter, it was resolved, on thei motion of Mr. Weir, to hold the whole meeting (senior and. junior events) on the Thorndon courts, and that an effort be made to secure the Brougham Hill courts in case of an overflow. The following officials were appointed for the tournament : — Referee, Mr. H. M. Gore ; classification committee, Messrs Beere, O'Leary, and the secretary; management committee, Messrs. B. A. Keesing, H. A. Robertson, F. A. Lewis, and C. E.'Weir; press steward, Mr. A. H. Kimbell. ' "
