CITY COUNCIL.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETJNG. COMMITTEE REPORTS. The City Council mot last evening. Present — Tho Mayor (the Hon. T. W. Hislop) and Councillors Cohen, Smith, Luke, Ballinger, Hales, Shirfccliffe, Fisher, Biss, Fletcher, Carmichael, Hindmarsh, M'Laien, Morrah, Murdoch, and Godber. BATHS AND CITY RESERVES. The committee recommended :—(1): — (1) That the present tenant of lease of section 31, Town Belt, be given an occupancy of the same till fresh tenders are received and decided, at the rate of £25 per annum. (2) That tenders be called for the lease of section 43, Town Belt, Upper Epuni-street. (3) That provision be made in next year's estimates for providing for tho laying of water, with drinking laps and cups, and the erection of public latrines and dress-ing-shed accommodation at the Kelburne Park. A supplementary report fixed the disposition of the city playing grounds junongst various athletic bodies. The report was adopted unaltered. BYLAWS AND STREET LIGHTING The committee recommended :—(1): — (1) That a lamp' be erected at the corner of Duncan-terrace and Crawford-road, Kilbirnie. (2) That the plan of subdivision of the Onepu estate, South Kilbirnie, be approved, provided the company reserve sections Nos. 1, 2, 28, 29, 30, 99, 100, 101, 143, 144, 145, 161, 162, 163, and the two unsubdivided areas shown on the plan, from sale at present. The committee reported that it had given further consideration to the proposed subdivision of the estate of the laic Isaac Plimmer, in Wool-combe-street, and recommended that same be approved, and that the right-of-way be authorised on the conditions imposed by the City Engineer.The report was 'adopted. The Mayor said he was not satisfied with sectidn 2, but as the committee had given it long consideration, lie would not oppose the recommendation. FINANCE AND PROPERTY. Amongst the recommendations of the committee wore the •following : — That the request of the Onslow Borough Council, that the Kaiwarr.a household refuse should be burned at the destruc- ' tor, be acceded to, on conditions suggested by tho City Engineer. That the matter of the condition of the footpath at Botanical-road be left in the hands of the City Engineer to arrange with the property-owners -affected. That the petitioners tor the construction of a road off Aro-street be informed that, owing to the Government's inability to contribute towards the cost of same, the proposal cannot be proceeded with. That the charge- for all water used by the Boys' Institute in excess of 100,000 gallons, be 6d per 1000 gallons. The report was adopted.
