SHOOTING AFFAIRS.
♦ [XT TBLKGBArH.—rEESa ASSOCIATION.} DUNEDIN. This Day. Daniel M'Curdy, victim of the shooting affray in North Dunedin, is making satisfactory progress. The bullet was extracted from the leg to-day. Ib appears that M'Curdy did not throw a knife at Tomey, but that as the result of a dispute over a scat, at the table Tomcy threatened M'Curdy with a knife, and the lattei. picked up a chair in self-defence. Toiaey, it is alleged, went outside, got i rifle, and fired through the window, wounding M'Curdy in the thigh. INVERCAtaHM'. 15th Dec. As a sequel ba, tl?!e shooting affair at North Invercarg ill, Maud Buchanan was arrested to-night on & charge of having attempted to murder Vera M'Kay. Accused was charged before a Justice of the Peace and remanded. Bail was not applied fur. Police enquiries co far throw no new light on the shooting. It seems clear that Mrs. Buchanan has entertained a grudge against M'Kay, but what was the nature of that grudge was not definitely known. She and the M'Kays have been on friendly terms up till some months ago, and she and Mr. Buchanan looked after M'Kay's house during the latter's trip to America a year or two ago, and continued to live with the M'Kay family for five months after their return home. Since then somo estrangement occurred. Vera M'Kay was shot through the fleshy part of the arm, near the elbow. She is not seriously hurt. It is stated that Mrs. Buchanan has boen suflering from periodical nervous instability.
