" SALOON-SMASHING.
CARRIE NATION ON THE WARPATH. By Telerrapn.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received December 16, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, 15th December. Mrs. Carrie Nation, the Kansas "sa-Icon-smasher," is carrying on a campaign in Glasgow. So far she has had little success, and she has been in frequent collision with a crowd. The American saloons some twenty years ago had to face an attack by women, who assembled and prayed around their places of business, and afterwards a more aggressive band, led by Mrs. Carrie Nation, who damaged their premises and smashed their stock-in-trad<j. Mrs. Nation was several times imprisoned for her escapades. Eventually the great Women's Temperance Union movement was started by Miss Willard, and the more aggressive organisations faded away.
