At 9 a. ml the following forecast wai issued (or the subsequent 24 hours: — Wind. — Southerly, strong to gale at most places north of Kaikoura and Nelson and Farewell Spit; moderate to strong from same direction elsewhere. Barometer. — flise everywhere. Sea. — Heavy on east coast northward of Kaikoura and on west coast between Cape Egmont and Foxton ; considerable thence northward and on east coast southward of Kaikoura; moderate elsewhere. Tides. — High on east coast between East Cape and Kaikoura; good thence southward; high on west coast between Cape Egmont and Foxton ; good thence northward ; moderate all other ports. Rain is probable in the North Island generally and on the eaat coast of the South Island northward of Lyttelton. Warning signal for southerly gale ia exhibited at Tintiri, East Cape, Cape Campbell, Stephen Island, and Farewell Spit. a. a. edwin.
