"ISRAEL IN EGYPT."

After the practice last evening every member of the Wellington Musical Union, chorus and orchestra, went home pleased with the rehearsal. The performance on Friday next at the Town Hall promises to eclipse the performance of last December, and the musical public can anticipate a feast of music. At 8 o'clock the orchestra will play three movements from Hubert Parry's Suite for strings, viz. (a) Prelude (b) Star Minuet, and (c) Gigue. . The box plan at the Dresden is rapidly filling.

He added that the contractor was willing to accept the risk. Enquiries made to-day by a Post reporter elicited that the refusal of the board was made because in the opinion of that body's engineer the wharf is not yet in a fit state to bear vehicular traffic. The pipes (10,000) arrived from Auckland by the Mangapapa this morning. Tho New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association of Canterbury is inviting applications for the issue oi 6 per cent, cumulative preference shares. Details are advertised in this, issue. Notice is given in our advertising coliimns of a meeting to be held by the Wellington Highland Rifles this evening, for the purpose of electing an officer. Messrs. Levin, Shallcrass and Co. advertise particulars of a salo by auction of ladies' tailor-made costumes. These costumes will be on view at the firm's rooms i on the day pf ihe e»lo,
