HOUSE OF LORDS.

« . SUPPLIES SHOULD BE STOPPED. fiUPPLIEES SHOULD BE STORMED. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 14th December. Mr. Keir Hardie, M.P., while speaking at Barry, in Wales, expressed a fear that the Government was about to commence a campaign of words against the House of Lords. He said if four hundred members of the House of Commons wanted to overthrow the Upper House, it could be done, but every year Liberals were being created peers, while those desirous of being elevated to the peerage must b© taken into account. Mr. Asquith.. the Prime Minister, knew perfectly well that Liberal opinion, both inside and outside the House of Commons, was divided upon the subject, and co he daredi not speak out. Until the King consented to the abolition of the House of Peers, declared Mr. Hardie, the- House of Commons should refuse to pass votes for the army, the navy, and the Civil Service. If, he added, they were to tax land at the present-day value, they could obtain £40,000,000 per annum.
