TRADES COUNCIL.
The Trades Council met last night, Mr. G. H. Lightfoot presiding. The half-yearly balance-sheet ending 31st August, which was adopted, showed that the receipts, including the balance at the bank, were £2(>9 5s 4d. Expenses in connection with the Blackball strike and other items had been unusually heavy. Over £36 of the council's money was voted in the way of donations. The half-year closed with a total of £248 14s 4d of assets over liabilities. The principal correspondence dealt with was a letter from the combined unions of Broken Hill detailing the trouble which had occurred on the field in connection with the non-political union. The unions advised that they had succeeded in smashing the concern, and had also received full recognition from the Managers' Association. They anticipated further trouble in the future, and asked for the suppoi't of the New Zealand unions in any such contingency. The council- decided to congratulate the unions and assure them of the support of the Wellington unionists in the case of a strike on the Barrier.
