Mr. Walker E. Bush, City Engineer, Auckland, ia at present in Wellington. Judge T. W. Fisher, Under-Secretary of the Native Department, returned from Wanganui last night. Hon. Dr. Findlay's appointment as hon. captain of the Civil Service Rifles has been approved by the Governor. Mr. Edwin Bold has been appointed Land Purchase Officer. He succeeds , Mr. Thomson, who recently retired on superannuation. Lord Plunket visited Masterton yesterday and presented the certificates won by members of the local ambulance corps. In the evening his Excellency was entertained by the ambulance corps. Mr. A. R. Acheson, late of Canterbury College, has been appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Syracuse University, New York. Mr. Acheson graduated at Canterbury Col- i lege as Bacnelor of Science in 1905. The Native Minister (Hon. J. Carroll)-! celebrated his fifty-first birthday yesterday. A number of his friends in Parliament made him a presentation in the evening, and in the conrse of his reply the Minister stated that he did not intend to retire from Parliament, and that, he is in perfect health.
