FRENCH CLUB.
The first general meeting of th« Wellington French Club was held at tha Geisha Tea Rooms, Panama-street, last evening. Mr. J. Hutcheson, in the ttnavoidablo'absence of Mr. H. Beauchamp, (Vice-Consul for France), presided, alia. there were about 40 members present. The proposed rules were submitted to tho meeting. Ifc was decided to include in the rules provision for the admission •of visitors to ordinary meetings of tha club, by permission of the chairman. A' proposal to fix the subscription at 12b for gentlemen, and 5s for ladies, made by Mr. Man'thel, and seconded by Mr. Duflou, was lost. Tho rules were finally, adopted. It was decided to hold tha meetings on Thursday evenings weekly at the Geisha Tea Rooms until further arrangements. During the evening Mr. H. Geeen, a member of the Auckland French Club, gave a most interesting ac, count of the methods adopted by his club in inleßesfoig members, and in tha promotion of the study of the French language-and literature.
During the quarter just ended, 90 male and 30 female new members were admitted to the. local Cooks and SVaitSEtJHWWk
