SAILORS' REST.

The annual report of the Wellington Sailors' Rest expresses regret that since the; last meeting the Hon. E. Richardson, who was elected chairman, resigned tho position, owing to ill-health. Mr.. Richardson had filled the position for a number of ■ years, and had always taken a large interest in the welfare- of the Rest. Mr. C. W. Jones Was elected acting-chairman to fill the vacancy. During the year Messrs. H. Beauchamp, W. Ferguson, and A. E. Pearce tendered their resignation as members of the committee. Messrs. F. 0. Bolton, R. Fletcher, and D. Ryan were nominated to fill these vacancies. The amount subscribed during the year just closed was £159 4s 6d, as against £157 15s 5d for the previous twelve months. Whilst a few new subscribers assisted, a number of tho old subscribers had not continued to do so, and it is hoped that during the present year these, with other subscribers, will be prevailed upon to assist in tlie good work. Mr. J. W. Wearn, superintendent, assisted by Mrs. Wearn, energetically carried out tho work of thp Rest. During tho year no less than 19,385 seafaring men have visited the^building. The thanks of the committee are extended to friends, for goods received, as well as to those who have provided the sailors with pleasure by entertaining them with the concerts each Monday evening.
