A DIVORCE.

(Received 1 May 23, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, 22nd May. Mr. Alfred Vanderbilt has been divorced, on his wife's petition.
Mrs. Vanderbilt was Elsie French, daughter of the late Frances Ormond. French, president of the Manhattan Trust Company, and director of many railrqads. She nas married to Alfred Vanderbilt on 11th January, 1901. A year later their only child, William Henry, was born. Vanderbilt, as the second eon of tho late Cornelius Vanderbilt, inhorited something like 60,000,000 dollars. ■ He has been regarded as tho head of' the family since the estrangement which followed the marriage of Cornelius, the eldest son, to Miss Grace .Wilson. During the past year or so Vandferbilt has spent niftch of his time abroad, but recently he returned from London, where he had planned to drive the coach Venture as a, public coach between London and Brighton. Later he is to be one of the judges at, the international horse show at London, where his horses won many trophies last year.
