ENQUIRY INTO THE PALMERSTON ! CASE. [By Telegraph.— Special to The Post.] PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. Tho coroner's enquiry into the stampede of horses at the railway station on the jight of 4th April, by which Miss M. Jones, of New Plymouth, was killed and Mrs. Gordon Reid, of Wellington, injured, was held yesterday afternoon. The evidence adduced was in the dire> tion_ of ascertaining what 'caused the bolt.' Tho witnesses' statements were conflicting, some stating that a pair of cab horses wero startled by th© slamming of the door of another cab, others saying that an unattended pony cart frightened the horses. Tho witnesses* ■also deposed that one cab was unattended. The jury was unable to come to a • decision as to the cause of tho bolt, but added a rider drawing attention to the prevalence in the borough of the custom of leaving vehicles without drivers.
