The Hon. W. Hall-Jones will open the new Post Office at Waikanae tomprrow. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Kersley leave Wellington to-morrow by tho Moeraki on an extended tour of the world. Mr. J. D. M'Kenzic, a member of the Auckland Education Board, will be a candidate for tho Marsden seat at the coming election. ■Messrs. J. and O. Stout, sons of the Chief Justice, are passengers to Sydney to-morrow in order to connect with wie steamer Ophir, for England. Mr. E. I. Littlejohn, of ' Wellington, who has been on a trip to the old country with Mrs. and the Misses Littlojohn, returned to-day by tho Warrimaa. Major J. Randal Carey, managing director of the Daily Telegraph Newspaper Company, of Sydney, Avas a passenger to Auckland by the 1 Zealandia. He has gone to Rotorua. Mr. A. D. Kennedy, of Wellington, has booked a .passage by the Marama, which leaves this port on 6th March, for Sydney. Thence he will enter upon » tour of England and tho Continent. Comte Le Avourin Tonlon and Count Jaurnoille, of France, aro at present touring the Dominion. They leave Wellington for the South to-night, and proceed to Australia next month. The Rev. L. F. and Mrs. Stephens, of Oregon, U.S.A., leave to-morrow for Sydney, where they ai - e to join tho Ophir for England. They break their journey at Port Said in order to tour Egypt and tho Holy Land. Tho Education Board to-day received the resignations of the following teachers.: — Miss Duncan, Wallacevillc, as from 31st March ; Mr. M'Namara, Mangapakeha, as from 29th February ; and Miss E. Cooper, Clyde Quay, as from 29th February. Six months' leave of absence, to take effect from the present week, has been granted to Councillor Godber by tho City Council to enable him to, retain office while making a trip to Great Britain which ho will commence next month. Mr. A. E. Stitchbury, of this city, proposes to leave in March on a tour of the world. On the return journey he comes home by way of Canada. Another)' Wellingtonian, Mr. E. W. B. Hornabrook, intends to pay a visit to the Old Country, setting out early in April. Dr. Cockayne, F.Lj-S., whose botanical survey of Tongariro -National Park was temporarily interrupted by a slight accident to his knee, returned to Wellington from Christchurch this morning. Dr. Cockayne will immediately resume his labours on Tongariro. Mr. E. H. Morrah, brother of Mr. Morrah, the Wellington auctioneer, and Mrs. Morrah, and tho Misses Morrah arrived here this morning. Mr. E. H. Morrah has been transferred from tho Adelaide branch of the Bank of Australasia to the management qf the Palmerston North branch of that bank. Mr. James Drummond, F.L.S., tho New Zealand ornithologist, who has been spending some days in tho bird sanctuary, of Kapiti Island, returned to Wellington this morning. Mr. Drummond has* been paying particular attention to the habits of the avifauna on Kapiti, and especially those of the recently introduced sub-Antarctic birds. The death of Mrs. Peter Milno { wife of the well-known Presbyterian missionary to tho New Hebrides, occurred at Dunedin yesterday. Mrs. Milne shared her husband's labours for many years in the Islands. A short time since she cams to Dunedin to make a home for her family. On Monday she sustained an attack, of Island fever, but as this was no new experience no alarm wa.«= felt. She became unconscious on Tuesday, and died yesterday afternoon. Mr. Ernest W. Hunt, A.1.A.N.Z., who is retiring from the hon. secretaryship of the Wellington Accountant Students' Society, was, at a meeting of the society last evening, elected a life member. The chairman (Mr. D. T. Stuart) then presented Mr. Hunt with a purse of sovereigns on behalf of members. Tho services rendered to the society by the retiring officer were referred to in eulogistic terms, and it wa3 6tated that it was duo to the untiring efforts of Mr. Hunt that tho society was in its present position. Increases in the salaries of City Council officials were granted by tho council last night, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee. The itcmg are as follows :— M. J. Casey, £156 to £182, as from Ist January, and to be appointed permanently clerk in charge oi city engineer's office ; A. Lafferty, £2 14s to £3 per week, as from Ist January, and to be permanently appointed clerk in rity engineer's office; H. L. Godber, £225 to £250 per annum ; A. H. Stevenson, £165 to £190 per annum ; H. Caverhill, £115 to £125 per annum. In these three cases the increaso dates from Ist February.
