Owing to the South Island bands missing the train connection at Wellington on Saturday morning tho hour for starting was postponed from 9 a.m. till 2.30 p.m. to enable the competitors from the South to have an opportunity of competing, should they have taken the earliest opportunity of arriving. Only one. or two, however, did so, and the committee were iinable to delay the ststrt any longer without upsetting the whole- programme. The Taaritone selections resulted : — W Munro, First Battalion, Auckland, 67 points, 1 ; G. A. Day, Nelson Garrison, 66 points, 2; G. Jensen, Wanganui Garrison, 65 points, 3. Others who competed were:— E. Gilbert, First Battalion, 64; H. Flatt, Nelson, 60; G. Austin, Taranaki Garrison, 59; B. May, Hastings, 60; J. Weir, Manaia, 63; A. S. Fulljames, Auckland Mounted Rifles, 61. The judge. Lieutenant Herd, stated that he barito.no music v.as a trdat. The maximum of points for music was 60, the balance being allowed for tho class of music. , Only three competed in tho flugel horn solo, the others no£ having arrived. H. Gould, Wanganuv was first with 66; G. Pearce, Taranaki, second with 63; A. N. Hawkins, First Battalion, 61. The weather is at present showery, but shows signs of clearing. The Wcolslon, Mornington, Palmerston North, and Marton bands arrived to-night, t and expressed disappointment at the f-\ct that they were unable to compete in tho afternoon folos. Tonight tho quartettes were decided, resulting as follow i — Neil^on Garrison "Operi'tic Airs," 77. points ; Auckland Ist Battalion, No. *1, "OHeron," 75 pofnlj ; Woolston No. 1, "Huguenots," 74 points; Hastings, 73; Mornington, No. 1, 73; Moslerton, 72; Auckland Batt.ilicn, No. 2, 71 ; Woolston, No. 2, 71 ; Mornincrton, No. 2, 69; Ttiranaki GariUon, S3. Tho winners, the judge- stated, -gave a very fi.no performance indeed, Auckland being not very far behind. The quartettes, as a whole, afforded him a gocd deal of pleasure.
