Speaking at the dinner accovded to him before he left for Sydney, Cardinal Moran said' that since the occasion of his former visit twenty-two years ago, there had been a remarkable development in tho. city of Auckland, and there was room for almost unlimited expansion. It was delightfully situated for a brlliant future, being among the grandest and most favoured cities notonly of the Dominion but of tho whole of Australasia. Archbishop Redwood also referred to what he termed the immense progress of Auckland. Then he proceeded to say : "You are a very good rival for Wellington. Wellington <s a formidable host, and it will bo a neck and neck race during the ensuing years, for when the railway is finished about this timewiext year wo will be able to shake hands with you. There will be great progress then, and the two great cities of the Dominion will share in the prosperity."
