LAME HORSES. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir; — During the two years I have been in .WfiHington I have been much struck by the number of lame horses constantly to be seen in use in the city. I think it is .no exaggeration to say that I have noticed an average of at least one per ■diem, chiefly drawing express and other four-wheeled vehicles. It may be remarked that it is my duty to have taken steps €o cause the owners to be brought to book, but- as a- busy man I have not time to constantly appear at court as a witness. The policb seem to be -unaware ■whether a horse is lame or not) or do not care. I have a strong suspicion that shoeing is at the root oi this evil. Is there no supervision over farriers here? Theabove is a worse stats of affairs than 1 have seen in any town in four continents I am acquainted with^ and is a disgrace to Wellington.— l ava, etc., . ' fcltf GBONE.
