Owing to Ihe drought the amount paid out to suppliers in the past month by the local dairy company is £700 less than in the similar period last year. There are indications now that the drought is breaking up. Bush fires on the Maungakoua Ranges caused considerable alarm to the 'sanatorium patients, and the Fire Brigade worked hard to check their spreading. Danger is no'v averted. The first tolalisator race meeting held at Cambridge for many years took place on Saturday on the occasion of the Rotorua races. A sum of £1000 was put through the machine. Twenty-one bookmakers were admitted on payment of £5 each.
