RIFLE SHOOTING.

SATURDAY'S MATCHES AT TREXTHAM. Nearly 250 marksmen mustered at Trcntham on Saturday afternoon for the customary ■week-end riflo shooting matcher, and the wind nnd elevation problems proved themselves puzzling for some and comparatively ea«y for others. Some seasoned marksmen fired all .their ehols without making double figure points, while others managed to score within a few points of the- possible total. A goodly number of marksmen fired' On the Seddon rangp, at 900 and 1000 yards. _ Horo tho conditions were specially puzzling and the hilk at rear of the targets received a big raking-up. Tho best range ecoro at 900 yards was made by Rifleman Hoilard, of Petone (29), and tho addition to this of two points handicap and 16 points ECornd at 1000 yards made him top ecorer of his club for thp day. The best totals at 1000 yards were m.-ido by Riflomen A. S. Henderson and D. Jenness (each 23), the next besi being Rifleman S. Knight (22) and B. W. Bird (21). The best long ranges aggregate of the day was that of Private Given (City Rifles) who scored from the barrel 24 at 900 yardr, and 23 at 1000 yards. A trusty -veteran, sii Ptivato Jackson, senior, followed him with a scratch Fcoro of V 6 (made up of 26 and 20). D Battorv, tho College Rifle?, and the Highland Rifins all fired at 200, 500, and 600 yards. Pri\ate M'lvor and Guunpr I'limmrr, each 91, put on tha best ucratch aggregates. No. 5 COMPANY OF ENGINEERS. A competition for tho company trophy was fired, and Sappor Leonard astonished the company by shooting especially woll after twelve months' absence from the range. RIFLES. The. tenth match of the aggregate series was gono.through, but the shooting waa below tho company's average, which has lately shcr.Mi considerable improvement.

The final of 5 Morris-tube matshes was fired last Tuesday, and was won by Pvt. Pettifcretv (21), Lancc-Corp. Munro (19) • second; aggiesute (best 3 out of 6 iv ntches) won by Sergt. Butcher. ZEALANDIA RIFLES. Tho company belt and trophies competition v. as advanced a stage, but the distancs of v the targots troubled some of the competitors.

POST AND TELEGRAPH RIFLES A match for Mesir*. C. Hill and Son's trophy was fired at 000 .and 1000 ynrds ; seven shots at each distance. Sergt. Wakolin made top score. COLLEGE RIFLES. Tho ronipany fired for a trophy given by Corporals Co-nles and KerMake,' and for & second trophy presented by Mrs. Dykes. The first-named trophy was won by Pvt. Pvr, and the second one. fell to Corporal Cowles. Pvts Wollerman and King gained money prizes.

PETONTE RIFLE CLUB. The No. 3 aggregate competition was gone on with Good shootintf vas made at 900 yds, . but _ at 1000 yds tho language was more incisive than' the bullets. A Class. !

HUTT VALLEY RIFLES. Matches far the championship shield, thxs B rla_s3 cup, and company trophies wore fired.
