The man is understood to have admitted that the •articles belonged to Messrs Ross and Glendining, ' and were taken during the recent fire at Christchurch. Accused, whose name is George Barnes, alias Ted Ashton, described as proprietor of the Link Diningrooms, Colombo-street. Christchurch, appeared before Mr. Riddcll, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning, on the charge stealing the goods from the premises of Messrs Ross and Glendining, Christchurch. On the application of Detective Brobevg, accused was remanded to appear at Christchurch. Events have proved that tho Health Department acted very wisely in ordering the quarantining of the measles "contacts" who reached Wellington recently. Among the contingent, which was sent to Somes Island, there were eight children, comprising thiee measles pntients, und five "contacts." The five wore isolated, and eventually developed measles. Bronchial symptoms have also appeared in one , who will therefore be detained longer than tho others. The .Minister for Justice (Hon. J M'Gowan) will be back from Taranaki to-night.
