AT AN INEBRIATES' HOME. DOINGS ON BELL'S ISLAND.

Questioned a3 to his experience so far, Staff Captain Simpson said that he nad hsd no difficulty with any of the men. They came to the island anticipating something like a, prison and prison treatment, nnd when they hud been theie a shorb time they were agreeably surprised, and adapted themselves to the existing conditions. They had to ebsirve legular hours of lisin^ and retiring, working and meals,, but they worked only about seven and a half hours a day, and the work v.t.s> by no means arduous. There was a good deal to be done about the' place, and the men must do it. Soma were domestics, and others were employed out of doors. Several of the men werj employed in erecting posts and wire netting for a fowl run. Staff Captain Simpson anticipates that a good deal can bo done in the i caring of poultry. All the fjsh required can be caught, oif tho shore, and those not required for immediate use are smoked nnd kept for US3 when the weather is unsuitable for fishing. As to the report that ths Army contemplated establishing a h\shcuring establishment on the island and entering into competition with Auckland fishrrmtn, Stuff Captain Simpson baid lh!& was. a. ease of going from home for news.
