WHAT DOES IT MEAN ? TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — In Friday's issue under suburban news items, there is one paragraph which requires a little explanation. The paragraph referred to reads : Reporting to the Hutt River Board, the engineer, Mr. Laing-Meason, stated that he could see no reason why permission should notj be granted to the Petone / Council to divert Everest's stream into the closed western arm of the Hutt River. It will be remembered that the late Mayor submitted a proposal to borrow £9000 to divert this, and other streams 'in the Petone Borough, and at the time stated that the Hutt Borough was subscribing £3000 to cover additional cost of including Everest's stream m the general scheme. This proposal was rejected at the poll. Recently the present Petone Council announced its intention of proposing that £6000 should bo borrowed to divert the streams running from the hills, within the Petone Borough. The difference between the two proposals is somewhat interesting, but his point is this : Seeing|that Everest's stream is in the Hutt Borough, is the word Petone in the paragraph a misprint? If not, then in plain English, what is the "little game ?— I am, etc WATCHMAN. "'
