Gales yesterday roused the slumbering embers in the Matahiwi bush, and the fire commenced to spread 'n the direction of Mr. Holmcs's new homestead Sheep had to be mustered and driven to safer quarters, and efforts made to minimise the danger. The wind, however, went down during tho afternoon-. FIBRE DESTROYED. MASTERTON, This Day. Bush fires at Opaki destroyed £150 worth of fibre belonging to Roffo and Thompson, flaxmillers. LOSS OF A THRESHING MACHINE MASTERTON, This Day, A threshing mill belonging to a Mr. Mutrie was destroyed this morning by fire. It appears that a traction engine was conveying tho mill into town, and it is supposed a spark from the engine set fire to some husks in the feeder of the mill. The damage is estimated at between £200 and £300.
