In the course of an interview with a representative of the French newspaper Ls Matin tho Sultan Abdul Aziz staled that when the Kaiser offered to protect Morocco against French severity he accepted the offer, but finding that the Kaiser would do nothing, though the French advance continued, ho lost all confidence in the Kaiser, and again went over to France. The Sultan urges that Franco ought now to provide means to enable him to icgain Fez. Recenlly Germany courteously informed France that both Sultans of Morocco (Abdul Aziz and Mnlai Hafid) had appealed for Gsrmany'c intervention. Abdul Aziz denied this, but the denial was interpreted as meaning that a very realous 'Moorish partisan appealed to Germany on his behalf. It has been stated that of Into tha feeling between France- and Germanyhas much improved, and the announcement in a cable message from Lisbon (published in another part of this issue), to the effect that Prince- Eitel will npend a few days in Paris when returning from the funeral of the late King and Crown Prince of Portugal, is signihcant.
