REPORTED RESIGNATION OF SIR A. MACDONNELL. By Telesrtph.— Press Association.- Conyilght. LONDON, 6th February. The Right Hon. A. Birrell, Chief Secretary for Ireland, denies that Sir Antony Macdonnell has resigned his position aa Utfder-Secretary to the LordLieutenant of Ireland. The Irish Times recently asserted that Sir Antony Macdonnell had tendered his resignation, thq reason for this step being that Sir Antony wished to resort to sterner measures in dealing with offences against law and order in the disaffected districts where cattle-driving has been going on. Thin is not the first tim« the reported resignation of Sir Antony has been announced. At the end of Decpmber, tho Pall Mall Gazette alleged that ho desired to relinquish office, owing. to a disagreement with Mr. Birrell upon the details of the University Bill.
