MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Th,e ordinary meeting of the Miraniar Borough Council was held last evening Present— The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Crawford), Councillors Bell, M'Leod, Brodio, and East. In regard to the valuation of the borough, the Valuer-General notified the council that it would be necessary to appoint an assessor. It was agreed to ask Mr. Edward Townsend to act in the position. It; was decided to grant Messrs. Gardiner and Russell £10 each for their services in connection with the tramways extonsion. Councillors, were agreed that the monoy was too small for the services that had beon rendered. They thought the borough .had been 'savo considerable etfpenssf.' Mr. Hanify \vas appoiated engineer to supervise tl» street-improvement works. Councillor 'Bredie movod that the Town Clerk; be inittfucted'to report to a future meeting concerning'tne advisableness and possibility of securing the services of a Scavenger for the district. Accounts were passed for payment as follc.Vrs:"^pistrict fund account, . £482 14s lid; tramway loan' account, £1064 Mo 8d ; improvement loan .account, £1100. THE TRAMWAYS. ' Tho Tramways and Electrical Eufeineor notified the council that the City Council had instructed a ton minutes' service to bo. run to and from Kilbirnie, and thereforo several alterations would have to be. made in fche tirhei&ble- and route of Miraniar cars. Tho increased service, it ™as stated, would have to be brought into force on the 10th inst._ Tho letter further intimated .that sineo, installing the ne\v feeder a greatly Iraprovpd electrical pressure had beeii riiaintained on the Miraniar section* 'The' trip, from Government .fjtttiion to Miraniar terminus was now able to be done in forty minutes. In the new timetable, it had beon arranged for the Miramar cars to run through Lanlbton-qutty instead of along J'ervqjs t quay as at present. There will oe J no alteration in the times of departures 6f, the regular ."cars, but the morning 'arid evening extra -earn would require to leave five minutes earlier. The council approved the proposed alteration in timetable and running.
