(From Our Own Coriespondent.) LONDON, 27th December. A letter signed ll Lewi3 Haelaiti" appeared in The Times on, tho subject of "Old Ago Pensious iv Now Zealand." The writer says:— -"My object it, to call tho special attention of your readers to the system in New Zealand which has been in Operation during the past vivo years. I think the New Zealand system has not received nearly sufficient uttention in this country. It should be borno in mind that this system was delibejatoly chosen by an Assembly which is probably the most thoroughly progressive and demoOra- | tic in the world. . . Everything is done openly, and the public are interested iv payments being made only where due. The establishment of this system has been followed by results *hich appear to be of a most encouraging nature. There hts been a distinct advaaco in the general thriftiness of the community. It is a remarkable fact that the number of persons claiming pensions has decreased from 45 to 32 per cent, of persons eh'gible by age. Ono valuable feature of the system is that pensions are added to moderate savings. By this means thrift ie encouraged. The rulesMtml exceptions have been most thoroughly" worked out and will repay study The administration ie thorough and Ptonomical, the i.os>t only amounting to lj pt;i cent, of the amount of j2enfiipns £aid."-
