WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY. EXTENSION AT MIRAMAR.

j The proposals for the extension of tho gas service to, and the erection of a gas holder at, Miramar by the Wellington Gas Company, were advanced another 'stage at a meeting of the Miramar Borough Council 1 ' last evening. The Wellington Gas Company wrote stating that under section 25 of the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal and Public 'Bodies Empowering Bill, 1907, the company, had taken steps to obtain the consent of the Governor-in- Council to the carrying out of works at Miramav. In connection therewith, an application was forwarded for permission to erect a gasholder, tool shed, and other conveniences on the company's land at King's'road, Miramar, and to lay a connecting main from the works site* to {he Wellington' city boundary. It was further stated that it was essential that permission to lay the connecting main should form part of the application to which the consent of the council was desired, as it would be manifest that the Gas Company would not incur heavy expetiditur'e, and proceed with the erection di the ne"w holdoi? without being asisnred ihat 1 it could legally, .upon com•plefion, be linked jup -with the oity mains. Regarding this matter, the Prime Minister asked the council to forward to him any recommendations, it wished to make in the matter. The Mayor stated that negotiations had been going on with the company for sonic ditys past, .and as far as he knew the ' proposals ,weve f aVourable and advantageous to | the council. Permission for erecting* the holder was given at once;,, but' matters relating to the laying of mains came up for consideration. The Mayor recommended that the request be granted, subject to the work being carried out to the satisfaction of fchd' Borough .engineer. • CouripiUor Bell thought perhaps it ~woijdd be better to go. a littie farther with the regulations, ac the roads might be altered in the future, and this> would entail considerable expense. ft was the opinion o£ the Mayor, however, that the company would pro, vides fov any reasbnabte re-grading of the road 'that might take place in the future. All tliß council wanted, he said, was a legal document to keep the company bound to the regulations. The council agreed upon the prbposal, but it wis decided to refer the matter to the Gas Committee for final settlement.
