Rtuvcucon was charged wiih committing a broach of the carters' award by failing to pay men for a t'ay on which they did not work owing" (o inclemency of wesjilior. Inspector Jlaily sakl that unrlor tho award tho employer had the option of paying his men cither £2 6s or £2 fo per week. If iho former sum was* paid tho men were entitled to receive payment for wet clayis when they could not "work. Respondent for a time paid the men on a £2 8s rate, but latterly had substituted JD2 6s ac a b&a.'s. Tho day in auction was very wet, aud tho men waited at tho Btabltt? all day, being given no work to do. Chi pay day 6s was deducted from each man's wages on pcconnt of tha day off. The men resented this, and on Mohdav following the pay day went on strike. The ..defence was that the day waa not 100 wet to work and that defondant ordered the men to yoke up, but they did not do bo. The men, iivo in number, who went on strike on tho Monday wero charged with participating in a striku. The inspector statod that the strike lasted less than ai} hour. Decision was rooerved in both cases. Decision was also reserved in the following cases:— Jubilee Coal Company, charged with failure to ballot for certain places in the mine and with failure to placo men m -the mino in . accordance with positions drawn- in the ballot; Ohrietio EroE., allegod breach with regard to removal of drore fiom coal mine and charge- of neglecting to ballot. In the case agaiupt A. Taylor, charged with a breach of the cabinetmakers' award by working apprentices without indenturing them, a couviotk>u was recorded. Respondent was ordered to pay coats.
