DEATH OF MR. OWEN M'ARDLE

A few minutes after 8 o'clock this morning Mr. Owen M'Ardle, secretary of J. Staples and Co., Ltd., owners of the brewery in Murphy-street, Wellington, died in a Masterton private hospital, whither he was taken last night. Mr. M'Ardle went up to Masterton on Thursday afternoon with the Hon. Hamilton Gilmer, M.L.C. (his cousin) and Mr. Allan Maguire, two of the directors of Staples and Co., on business connected 'with tlie taking over of the new Empire Hotel from the contractors. He was then apparently 'in good health. As ho was walking downstairs -in the hotel yesterday afternoon, he became giddy and fell. On being picked up he was found to be unconscious. Drs. Cowie and Cook were summoned, and on their advice he was removed to a private hospital, where he died this morning- The cause of death was apoplexy, - The deceased,, who was about 54 years of*, a^e, was born in County Monaghah, Ireland, and came out to New Zealand whe& he was about 20 years old.
