' On a sodden wicket New South Wales collapsed, the innings closing for 241 — Noble 123, Gregory 63. Victoria thus won. by 211 runs. The following twelve have been selected for the next Test match •. — Hill, O'Connor, Armstrong, Saunders, Ransford, Macalister, Hartigan, Noble, Trumper, Carter, Macartney, and Gregory. An injury sustained by Cotter will prevent him playing for some time. Sydney Gregory, who has played himself into the twelvo from which the Australian team for the fourth test match will be selected, has taken part in more test matches than any o£her man. His first appearance was m 1890. With the wicket in good order, a batsman must be left out of the twelve. It will be seen that the Victorians — helped at the finish by the weathor — defeated New South Wales by the large margin of 211 runs. Since the season 1890-1, when the Victorians won both games, the men oi" Sydney have been victorious in 12 games out of 14. The Victorians' last win was in December, 1903. Their second innings total in the match just concluded i.s the largest they ever hit against New South Wales, the previous highest being 482 at Melbourne in 1884. The aggregate of 1615 is well ahead of the previous record in these particular contests, viz., 1411 made as long ago as 1882. New South Wales then scored 775 (Murdoch 321, Garrett 163, and Sam Jones 109), whilst -Victoria totalled 315 (Palmer 76, Baker 50, and M'Donnell 48), and 322 (Horan 102, Blackham 96).
