THE BONUS SYSTEM. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright (Received February 1, 7.39 a.m.) LONDON, 31st January. Lord Tweedmouth, replying to a deputation from the Parliamentary Committee of the Trade Union Congress, declined to abolish the premier bonus system in the Government dockyards.
■Sir Joseph Ward attended a "social" given to Mr. Kidd, M.P., by the lattei's Electoral Committee at Auckland List evening. Tho Prime Minister drlivowd a. short address, but he refrained from touching on any political questions, stating that he intended to deliver a policy speech in Auckland at an early date. The legal representatives of the late Mr. O'Sullivan, of Timaru, who left £100 to the unh'ersity for the- establishment of a scholarship for students of the Roman Catholic faith, and also £100 for masses to be said for the repose of his soul, requested the Univeisity Senate this morning to state if it had any objection to th« payment of the si>eond-n<uneil bequest, if it was .payable at all.
