WHARF LABOURERS' UNION.

The half-yeariy meeting of the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Union was held last evening, Mr. F. Burton, president, in the chair. In his report the secretary, Mr D. M'Laren, stated there were 906 names on the roil. During the past twelve months 328 new members had been enrolled. The union had done a good deal recently in assisting members in cases of accident and distress. About £100 had been raised for this purpose. The union had assisted very largely in the work of federating the various labour bodies. A feeling of unrest had existed for some time under the working of the present award. The union had decided to seek for a fresh award at the next sitting of the Arbitration Court. The report concluded by urging members to avoid on the wharf and when at work any acts which may lower the prestige and name of the union. It was stated that tho "social" held recently in aid of the widow and children of a late member had resulted in £34 13s being raised. The following officers were plected: President, Air. F. Burton ; vice-president, Mr. R. Winters; treasurer, Mr. T. Smith , delegates to the Trades and Labour Council, Messrs. W. Marritt, F. Burton, D. M'Laren, G. Terry, R. Wintera and P. Sheppard.
