CHRISTCHUROH, Tins Day. Heavy rain fell at intervals during last night. This morning Toads were damp, but they had been so long under ths fierce sun ths.*. the rain was soon absorbed. By 10 o'clock, when th,c sun again broke out, and tho day was as warm as ever, the damp had almost disappeared. The showers, however, will do good to the pasture and feed crops. MASTERTON, This Day. The rainfall registered for the month of January is just a little over half an j inch. In January last year tho record was nearly five inches, in January, 1905, un inch and a half/ For November aud December, 1907, and January, 1908, the total rainfa.ll has 'been three- inches, as against nine and a half for the previous corresponding periods. General ram set in at dawn, and continues, to the great relief of the- whole community. WAIPAWA, This Day. Light rain fell for an hour this morn-, ing, but the weather has now cleared. CARTER-TON, This Day. Rain fell last night, and continues today shower 3 strong wind blowing. NAPIER, This Day. A^slight shower of ram fell this morning, but only sufficient to raise the hopes of farmers that the drought had been broken. EKETAHUNA, This Day. Rain commenced last evening, and fell intermittently through the night, 23 points being registered. The glass fell yesterday, but this morning is steadily r.sing again, and the weather appears to be clearing. The rainfall has freshened the pastures, though much more is needed. The rainfall to date for the month is 43 points. ASHBURTON, This Day. Rain has fallen here, and should do much good.
