THE RAIN.

' FAIRLY GENERAL. BENEFICIAL EFFECT ON CROPS. [By Telegbaph. — Special to The Post.] MASTERTON, This Day. A fairly stiff southerly brought the devoutly wished for rain last night, and to-day an intermittent drizzle is gladdening tho hearts of farmers and urban residents alikf. There is now hope for some of the rape areas, which have been prematurely eaten down, to come on again, and also for second crops to be nut in where necesary. It is earnestly hoped that three or four days' rain will fall, as tho dryness of the soil is 1 almost inconceivable. Turnips will receive another impetus, and probably assure their condition for tho season. GREYTOWN, This Day. Welcome and useful rain fell here during the night.
