THE FIRE AT SUNNYSIDE ASYLUM.
CLEARING UP. [by tbujorami — ritEss association.] CHRISTCHURCH, 28th Jan. Very considerable progress was made at the Siinnyßicic Mental Hospital today in clearing up after the damage caused by fire and water at an early hour this morning. When the institution was_ visited by ,-r Press representative this afternoon much of ths debiis had been removed, and cleaning up operations were being actively proceeded with. From Dr. Gow, the medical superintendent, it was learned that the fire was discovered by a convalescent inmate, who will be leaving the institution in a few days. Tho window of tho dormitory in, Which this patient was located was almost in a- direct lino with the spot where the flames became apparent. Knowing that tho female night attendants wtfuld be up, the patient managed to convoy the information to them. Practically no dislocation of or interference with the internal economy and working of the institution has been occasioned by the fire, and matters were going on as usual to-day. It was necessary, however,- to obtain a supply of bread from town for this evening's meal.
