■ ■ '^- . NO TRAMS ON CHRISTMAS DAY. SICK BENEFIT FUND. At the meeting of the City Council last night tho Tramway Committea brought up the following report: — (1) That Mr. G. Lauchlan, Public Lighting Superintendent, be granted an increase of salary from £6 10s to £7 per week, the increase to date from the Ist December, 1907. (2) That for a. time Miramax cars shall run via Jervois-quay instead of Lambton-quay as at present ; all Seatoun cars to run via Lambton-quay. (3) That tho matter of the proposed car repairing pit at Clyde-quay, estimated cost £40, bo left in the hands of the officers to deal with. (4) That no tramway service be run on Christmas Day. (5) That accounts amounting to £1587 be passed) for payment. Tho committee also ireportedi as follows :—(1): — (1) That they have considered the application of the Tramway Sick Benefit Society for a 6ubsidy to their funds, and thoy are prepared to consider the giving of a subsidy to a scheme properly drawn up by a competent actuary that will satisfactorily protect the employees and at the same time conserve tho funds of the society.
