Rear-Admiral Sir Percy Scott, speak ing at a dinner in London, said that if the battleship Dreadnought were planted on the Derby racecourse, fifteen miles distant, her guns would reach his hearers, while the path of the projectiles would be, at the highest point of' trajectory, 700 ft above the summit of Mont Blanc (15,782 ft) if Mont Blanc stood between.
