THE LATE MR. J. C. WILKIN. MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY.

fßr TBLEaßAra.— Special to TnE Post.} CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Tha aotiug-manager and editor of the Lyttelbon Times has received a largo number of telegrams and letters expressing sympathy with them and their colleagues on. the loss sustained by the death of Mr. J. C. Wilkin. The Premier telegraphed last night: "'The news of Mr. Wilkin's death, comes as a groat shock to me. It seems only yesterday since I said good-byo to him. Ho was then looking forward to wellearned rest, and an interesting world tour. To die so far away from theland to which he was so attaohed makes t'ho loss, especially to his dear ones, all the more keenly felt; but I feel their grief is considerably assuaged by tho knowledge that his lifelong partner was with him at the end. He was a citizen, of whom Christchurch or any other community might well be proud, and leaves behind him a fine record of usefulness that will not soon be forgotten. To his family I tender my deepest sympathy in their hour of trouble." Mr. G. 'G. Stead telegraphed from Wellington : "Have just learned the sad news of Mr. Wilkin's death. Ho w.is ,1 {sterling good man, and during the many years during which I met him in business negotiations, 1 invariably found his word his bond. lam truly sorry for his family. Your paper wii! get another manager, but you will not readily get another Wilkin."
