ARBITRATION.

*> WELLINGTON BUTCHERS' AWARD. The award in the dispute of the Wellington Butchers' Union has been received by Mr. Hawkins, clerk of awards, and provides for a 56-hour week, to be regulated in advance by each employer ; but a worker may ba employed at any hour, to supply shipping in Wellington or Napier. The minimum weekly wages to bo paid by employers carrying on business in a 15 miles radius of Wellington Post Office shall be : For first shopman, £3 10s ; second shopman, £3 ; first smallgoods man, £3 10s ; all other workers — shop and cart -hands, £2 lls ; riders out (21 years or over), £1 12s 6d. Outside the radius mentioned the rates shall be : First shopman, £3 ; second shopman. £2 10s ; first smallgoodsman, £3 ; other workers, £2 10s, and riders out. £1 12s 6d. If board is provided by the employer the above wages shall bo 10s per week less, uasual workers to be paid Is 3d pei hour, with a minimum of six hours' employment ; such worker to bo provided with board by the employer, or paid Is 6d per day in lieu thereof. Boys' wages shall be: Under 16, 17s 6d per week ; 16 to 17, £1 : 17 to 18, 255; 18 to 21, 30s; if board is supplied wages shall be reduced by 7s 6d per week. The proportio/i of boys to men employed to bo one to every three men or fraction of I'three. Each employee shall have meat allowed him not to exceed the value of 5s per week, or, at the option of his employer, 5s in cash in lieu thereof. This provision will not apply to casual men and boys, nor to workers in pork butcheries. Casual boy labour is not permitted.
