PERSONAL MATTERS.

Mr. G. S. Munro returned from Christcnurch by tho Rotomohana this morning. The Minister for Labour and Marino (Hon. J. A. Millar) will Leave for Auckland to-morrow morning. Mr/ A. 0. Goopeiv son of Mr. Justice Cooper, has passed his first part of tho solicitors' law examination. Tho Valuer-General, Mr. G. F. C. Campbell, will make an official inspection of the North Island oarly in January. Mr. G. Allport, Secretary for Marine, left for Napier this morning to join the Hinemoa for her Northern lighthouse, trip. Mr. W. Pryor, Parliamentary Secretary of tho New Zealand Employers' Federation, left for Palmorston North this morning. Mr. W. Webb has been appointed secretary to tho firm of Thomas Ballinger and Co., Limited, vice Mr. D. Fuller, resigned. Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., intends leaving for Christchurch to-morrow. From Chyistehurch he will journey overland to the West Coast, where ho will spend his Christmas holidays. Tile Premier, Sir Joseph Ward, in his speech in tho Town Hall last evening, warmly praised the signal service which the Government Actuary, Mr. Morns Fox, had rendered the cause of superannuation. Amongst the passengers for Lyttelton by the Maori last night was Lieutenant Shackleton, leader of the Antarctic Expedition. Sir Philip Brocklehurst, who will accompany the Nimrod as assistant geologist, arrived by tho Warrimoo yesterday, and went South with Lieutenant Shackleton. Mr. D. Fuller, secretary to Thomas Ballinger and Co., Limited, who is about to enter into business on his own account at Seddon, Marlborough, was entertained by the firm and its employees last night. Mr. T. Ballinger, on behalf of the firm, presented Air. Fuller with a fruit and flower stand, of sterling silver, bearing tho company's seal ; and Mr. W. Milligan, on behalf of tho employees, handed Mr. Fuller a salad bowl for his wifo, and a smoker's cabinet for himself. Mr. Fuller has been with tho firm for twentythree years.
