Germany's 2'equcsfc for arbitration relates to a claim for damages arising out of the Boer War, which was brought before tho Central Claims Board, for South Africa in 1902 and disallowed. It is understood that tho British Government will nofc reopen the subjoct, •'md this creates a deadlock in respect to Messrs. Burns, Philp and Co.'s claim in connection with tho restriction of their leading operations in the Marshall Islands. The Kolnischo Zeitung recently stated that Germany was very desirous of settling the claims of Burns, Philp and Co. in a spirit of equity, always pre-sup-posing equal goodwill on tho British side regarding German claims in connection with the Boer War. Burns, Philp and Co.'s claim is for £10,000 damages for interference- by the German authorities at the 'Marshall Islands with tho company's trading steamer Ysabel. SUNDAY AMUSEMENTS IN NEW YORK. Tho Social Democratic party has issued a statement that the accusations are baseless, and that they aro really a pretext (o justify the alteration of tho electoral law. A hundred thousand workmen and students in St. Petersburg and Moscow have struck in sympathy with tho accused.
