ALLEGED ARSON.
« fBT TKMMSItAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.! CHUISTCHURCH, 26th Sept. A man named Robert O'Callaghan, timber and eo.il merchant, was arrested to-night on a charge of arson. Accused rented a small cottage in Linwood, which he furnished, and hi» is alleged to have attempted to fire the building yesterday afternoon by placing a lighted candle surrounded >by paper and dry chips ; in a cupboard. The candle, however, was discovered and extinguished before it had burned down to the heap of inflammable material. O'Callaghan s furniture was insured for £100.
