The Cunard liner Lusitania on the homeward voyage- averaged 22.60(?), knots. The captain is confident that the vessel can do 26j} knots. In her run to New York the Lusilania averaged 23.14 knots. A careful distinction must bo made between the Eastern and Western Atlantic trips. j The Westward record has hitherto been held by tho Hamburg- American line by a narrow margin, viz: — Deutschland, Cherbourg to Now York, 3064 mile 3, in 5 days 11 hours 54 minutes ; average speed, 23.15 knots per hour (September, 1903), compared to Kronprinz Wilhelm, Chorbourgh to New York, 3046 mijes, in 5 days It hours 57 minutes ; spend, 23.09 knots per hour (September, 1902).' Tho following are the best voyages of tho Novth-Getman Lloyd Company's three crack boats in the Trans-Atlantic servico : — Kaiser Wilhelm II. — Fastest average speed per voyage eastward, 23.58 knots per hour (June, 1904), kaiser Wilhelm II. — Fastest average speed per voyago westward, 23 knots per hour (Axigust, 1904). Kronprinz Wilhelm. — Fastest average speed per voyago eastward, 23.47 knots per hour (June, 1902). Krouprinz Wilhelm. — Fastest avorago speed per voyage westward, 23.09 knots per hour (Weptembor, 1902). Kaisor Wilhelm der Großßa — Fastest average speed per voyage eastward, 23 knots per hour (June, 1901).
