THE PANOPTIKUM.

There is plenty to interest and amuse at the Panoptikum in Cuba-street. Tho waxworks and cyclorama are especially attractive. The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The weekly meeting of the V.M.C.A. Debating Club was held last evening. A number of ladies fiom the Y.W.C.A. attended and contributed co rh& evening's entertainment. Tho following ladies and gentlemen took a leading part : —Misses Thompson, Short, Munro, West, Cathis, Hart, and Purdie ; and Messrs. Drew, Frost, Good, Armitt, R. Brown, and Norman. At tho close of the meeting, tho ladies extended a cordial invitation to tho V.M.C.A. to a return visit. The executive ot the Debating Union has arrangements in hand for the concluding gathering of the year, which will take the form of a concert, at which the gold medal and diplomas won at the various competitions will be presented. It will take place in the concert chamber of tho Town Hall on Saturddy evening, the Mayor will preside, while the patron of the union, Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice, will present the prizes. A fancy dress poster and masquerade pkating carnival will be held in tho Drill Hall, Lower Hutt, on Wednesday n9xt. The programme will iucludo several competitions. There was a large attendance at the Missions to Seamen Institute last night, on tho occasion of the weekly ambulanco meeting. Mr. James Moore gave some useful informatipn concerning first aid and health matters. Afterwards a competitioa entitled "Fractures" was held, and was won by sailors from vessels in port. The programme of music was arranged by Miss M'lntyre, and contributed to by Misses Evans, Efisson, and Mes3rs. 'M'Farlane, Harper. Johnston, Tresize, and Goudie. A hearty vote of thanks accorded tho performers terminated the evening's enjoyment. A social gathering in connection with the Wellington Naval Artillery and the Old Wellington Navals' Association will be held at the Jervois-quay boat station on Labour night (9th October).
