A poll was taken to-day on a proposal to raise a loan of £12,000 for gasworks, building, plant, etc. Th» proposal was canicd by 110 votes to 51. For the eleven sections comprised in the Airedale Estate »ocently acquired by the Government for closer settlement there were 419 applicants. All the soctions were applied for. Of the successful applicants, seven woru local men and on© each from Teniuka, Makikihi, Timnru, and Seadown. EXPORT OF BUTTER. AUCKLAND, 26th September.' The freight of the Turakfna, which sailed to-day for London, includes 2001 boxes of Auckland made butter for the London market. It was expected that ,5000 boxes would have been forwarded by the Turakinft, but owing to the lateness of the season and the fact | that large quantities of butter »r« hctng sent to tho South Island this could not be done. So far 400 boxes have been sent to South Africa, 302 for the South Sea Islands, and an earlier »hipment of 901 boxes for Great- Britain, making a total for September of 3604 boxes, or ninety tons, valued at £8640, compared with 3204 boxes, or Qtehty tons, during the corresponding month .last xpa.iv an. increase of ten/tona.
